By this time, Ian was hooked up to IVs and heart and lung monitors, as well
as a blood oxygen monitor. The nurses had given him a lion beanie-baby.

They had also decided by now that it was safe to feed him, but he wasn't
exactly an enthusiastic eater. The nurses reported he'd just chew on the
nipple, instead of sucking. As with everything, this was an excuse for the
nurses to worry about Ian. Paul's mother assured us that Paul barely
ate anything for his first week and lost nearly a pound during that time.
Judging by Paul's size these days, the initial lack of enthusiasm for food
didn't last and clearly didn't prevent him from growing later in life.
